Natural Grass vs Artificial Turf
When planning a new lawn, some homeowners are tempted by an artificial option, especially for smaller areas with challenges like deep shade or wear and tear from pets. While a synthetic lawn is often marketed as a simple fix for these problem spots, a closer look reveals why natural grass remains the superior choice for a family's backyard. Real grass provides a cooler, safer and truly eco-friendly outdoor space that actively benefits your family's wellbeing and the local environment. The authentic feel and realistic appearance of the 'real thing' is something that even premium artificial turf or other fake grass options cannot match.
Many of the issues that lead people to consider synthetic turf can now be solved with modern, advanced turf varieties. For example, varieties like Sir Walter Buffalo are now highly shade-tolerant, thriving in areas that were once a challenge for a natural lawn. For pet owners, a living lawn is a far healthier and more practical solution. Natural grass and the living soil beneath it contain microbes that naturally help to break down and decompose pet waste, whereas an artificial lawn requires constant chemical cleaning to remain sanitary and odour-free.

HEAR FROM OUR CUSTOMERS
TifTuf Full Prep
"I contacted your company early March this year [2024] as I wanted turf for my property in Dinmore. I know nothing about turf except it has to be mowed, cattle eat it and it grows well around dairies so I had to rely heavily on advice given. Within a very short time of contacting your company I was contacted by Kellie from Brookston Services [one of our premium turf installers], had an onsite quote from Lee, had the prep completed, turf delivered, laid and doing very well thank you!
From beginning to end it was simple, clear and fitted what I wanted. The aftercare plan was something I could manage. My needs, knowledge and ability, or lack thereof, to care for this investment were listened to and considered in the plan. A rarity, I've discovered, since moving back to town.
To my absolute delight and surprise this was the best thing I have done for a long time.
Thank you to your company, it's the way of conducting business, the people who you recommend and last but not least the quality of the product! I did request something I could drive over though, I'm so happy with it no-one has been allowed to drive on it! It is TifTuf.
Thank you", ShyrilResidential Turf FAQs
Why is natural grass the safer choice for my family?
A natural grass lawn is a living, breathing surface, making it the safest choice for children and pets. Unlike an artificial lawn, there are no plastics, rubber infill or concerns about what happens on a hot day. Real grass is naturally soft and cool underfoot, providing a gentle and forgiving surface for play. Our AusGAP-certified turf is a completely non-toxic product, ensuring your backyard is a healthy space for everyone to enjoy.
What is involved in a professional turf installation?
A professional installation by our recommended installers ensures your lawn is perfect from day one. The grass installation process involves preparing the site, laying the turf, and ensuring perfect soil contact for healthy growth. Our expert installation guarantees your turf is installed correctly for a seamless, lush green finish.
How much maintenance does a modern natural grass lawn require?
Modern turf varieties are bred for resilience and require only minimal maintenance to stay healthy. While some regular mowing is needed during the warmer months, choosing a drought-tolerant variety can significantly reduce water consumption, contributing to water conservation. It's the perfect way to achieve a low-maintenance landscape that is also beautiful.
How do I get a quote for my residential property?
It's easy. Fill out this quote request form or speak to our team for a free quote. We work with homeowners, landscapers, and property developers across Brisbane, the Gold Coast, and beyond to create the perfect solution at competitive prices.
Does natural grass need harmful pesticides to stay healthy?
No. A healthy, well-maintained lawn is its own best defence against pests and weeds. Modern turf varieties are chosen for their resilience and natural resistance to common issues. While some problems can arise, our approach focuses on promoting a strong, healthy lawn that can fight off most problems itself, avoiding the need for a routine reliance on harmful chemicals.
If treatment is required, there are several pest control and other treatments available which, if used in line with the manufacturer’s directions, don’t present any health concerns to people or pets.
Can a natural lawn handle a busy family backyard?
Yes. We offer an extensive range of turf solutions designed to withstand heavy use. Varieties like TifTuf Bermuda have extra durability and are perfect for high-traffic areas, bouncing back quickly from constant play.
Does fake turf have a negative environmental impact?
Yes, the environmental impact of artificial grass is significant. Synthetic grass is a non-biodegradable plastic product that sheds microplastics. Unlike real grass, which improves air and soil quality, artificial grass installation offers no ecological benefits and creates landfill waste at the end of its life. Environmentally conscious homeowners and landscaping companies should consider this before they install artificial grass.
