With the weather finally cooling off and overnight temperatures dropping, time to consider what you can do to prepare your lawn for winter.
A little work in autumn will go a long way to keeping your lawn in its best health all winter, giving you a head start next spring.
SOMETHING EASY
The easiest thing you can do to prepare your lawn for winter is to raise your mowing height. With less sunlight in the winter months your lawn needs new ways to get more light.
By leaving your grass longer the blades of grass are larger giving more surface area to soak up the sunshine. This allows your lawn to get more access to light despite the fewer daylight hours.
SOMETHING VITAL
You should be fertilising three times a year to keep your lawn at its best all-year-round. But if you don’t do that, you need to fertilise in autumn.
Use a good slow-release fertiliser such as our Lawn Solutions Premium Lawn fertiliser, available from our online shop. You can also visit your local Bunnings store and select a lawn fertiliser from their vast range.
By fertilising before the onset of the colder temperatures you get your lawn at its strongest. This will prepare your lawn for winter by building up nutrients before the leaner months.

With lots of lawn groups cropping up on social media we are seeing more and more people look to take their lawn care to the next level. The way to the next level is prepare your lawn for winter is to aerate your lawn.

Now is the time to be extra vigilant for weeds and to spray them out as soon as possible to prevent them from spreading.
