Some plants can only grow in some seasons. Whereas turf is something that can be laid all year round. Unlike Summer and Winter, Autumn is situated in between those seasons and is a great time to plan your turf projects.
WEATHER CONDITIONS
Southeast Queensland’s weather can be hot and harsh or cold and freezing.
Autumn is that perfect time that has more tolerable temperatures compared to those other seasons.
With less humidity it is a great time to get out and prepare your space.
The cooler weather makes the work easier physically and turf stays fresher longer, allowing you to take your time installing your turf.
PREPARATION OF SPACE & SURFACE
One of the most important steps before getting your turf, is the preparation of your space.
Spraying the surface to get rid of weeds is crucial before bringing in new soil, as new quality soil is a great way to reduce weeds entering your new lawn.
Make sure when you bring in new soil that you level and subgrade it. This will ensure that your turf will grow and establish evenly.
When you have these steps accomplished it is then time to order your turf.

INSTALLING THE TURF
With your site prepared and turf ordered it is now the time to install your chosen turf grass – and this must be done as soon as the turf arrives at your residence or site.
Using a water roller will also be an important factor of getting your turf down. Rolling your turf in with a water roller will see that your lawn gets its roots down properly into the soil, otherwise the roots will dry out and struggle to establish if not rolled in properly.
Although, as the weather is cooler in Autumn, there is less of a rush to install the turf. This does not mean you become complacent; it just allows the turf installation process to be slightly easier.
Once installed, make sure you water the turf, no later than 15 minutes into the installation process.

Watering is the most important part of a new lawn. Making sure that you have a daily schedule for watering is critical and that you are prepared for seasonal changes. This means updating your watering scheduling to suit the upcoming season and adhering to a strict schedule to ensure your new lawn gets all the moisture it needs from the leaf until the roots are established.
The great news is that the cooler weather in Autumn means you do not need to water in your lawn as often to establish the new lawn.
