Tips on Mowing Your Lawn
After your turf is laid and growing well watch for it to get tall enough to need mowing. You can mow as soon as the grass needs it. Depending on the weather conditions this can be anywhere from 1 week to 3 weeks after the turf has been laid. Follow these mowing your lawn tips to keep your grass healthy and beautiful.
When to Mow
Your law may need on once a week or every fortnight during the spring and summer growing season. During the autumn months and winter season it will need less mowing depending on how mild the winter is. During that time of the year it can need mowed anywhere from every 2 weeks to every 7 weeks. If you see weeds sprouting everywhere go ahead and do a light mowing. This prevents them from going to seed.
What Level to Mow
When first mowing your lawn, you should only take the tips off. Any time you move you only want to remove about 1/3 of the leaf. A good height for your lawn is 40mm – 60mm. While the tendency may be to keep it shorter, keeping it a bit longer may help with drought tolerance. Sir Walter does best at about 50mm. It also keeps the leaves softer and creates shade to keep weeds down. Higher grass keeps the soil cooler which means more water for the lawn.
