TifTuf is the newest addition to Jimboomba Turf’s house of brands is. TifTuf is a hybrid bermudagrass that was scientifically forged, producing a great looking lawn with superior qualities that requires minimal inputs.
TifTuf has a fine leaf blade and dense growth making it perfect for a wide variety of applications, especially Australian backyards. It is a sturdy and versatile turf grass with low water usage, high shade and wear tolerance along with excellent winter colour.
Originally selected from nearly 30,000 varieties, TifTuf faced 25 years of stringent testing at America’s top universities before it reached the Australian market. Exclusive to Australia’s best turf farms Jimboomba Turf is one of the few places you will find TifTuf in Brisbane.
The science behind TifTuf
TifTuf’s journey started in 1992 when it was one of 27,700 experimental bermudagrass genotypes planted out by the University of Georgia. In 1999 this group was reduced to the 90 most promising genotypes.
After proving to be so promising in the initial drought stress trials further testing was undertaken. The trials were expanded to several of America’s leading universities.
After 25 years of testing TifTuf has proven to be far superior to other grasses in the tests. Especially showing to have far lower water use and superior quality and colour during drought stress.
Since genetic purity is crucial for premium turfgrass varieties, the entire foundation stock of TifTuf was painstakingly bred from a single plant. This has ensured absolute genetic purity of all TifTuf Bermuda turf.
TifTuf – perfect for the South East Queensland lawns
During testing by Dr Brian Schwartz at the University of Georgia, TifTuf was shown to use 38% less water than other varieties after establishment.
This makes TifTuf the perfect lawn for South East Queensland homes that can have long dry spells. It is also perfect for areas with high water charges as it will maintain its look and health with far less watering than other common varieties.
TifTuf has also excelled in field wear tolerance trials which has led to its use on several sporting fields and golf courses. This high wear tolerance makes it perfect for active lawns with children and pets.
