The big questions for mowing your lawn

How often should I mow my lawn?

The frequency of mowing your lawn needs to match the growth rate. In winter months you will mow less frequently but in the summer months, we recommend weekly mowing. And always remember the 1/3 rule.

Is it bad to mow wet grass?

Yes! Mowing is cutting the blade of grass and opens the leaf up to the elements. It is always best to wait till the morning dew has come off the lawn and to avoid mowing after rain etc to ensure you reduce the stress of mowing on your lawn.

What time of day is best to mow my lawn?

Mowing in the heat of the day is also very stressful for your lawn, so its always best to either mow in the morning or afternoon avoiding the hottest part of the day and ensuring the grass is dry.

How high should I mow my lawn?

The optimal mowing height for our turf varieties are

Sir Walter DNA Certified: 30-50mm

Nullabor Couch and easylawn : 15-30mm

When mowing never remove more than 1/3 of the leaf, so if your lawn is much longer than the optimal height bring it down over a couple of weeks.

Does fuel go bad?

Yes it does! Infrequent mowing through winter can lead to stale petrol. Fuel in tanks can oxidise and should be drained and stored in an airtight container or a fuel stabiliser should be added.
