Three post holiday lawncare tips

Three post-holiday lawn care tips

Post-holiday lawn care can be daunting. The holidays ending is bad enough, but coming home to a long or brown lawn can really add to the post-holiday blues. Here are 3 tips to help you get your post-holiday lawn back to its best.

Is your post-holiday lawn a little long?

Mowing your lawn is a chore for many people, but mowing your lawn the right way can make your lawn care easier. If you were lucky enough to have a couple of weeks away, there is a good chance your post-holiday lawn will be a little longer than usual. If this is the case it is very important to remember the 1/3 rule; never cut more than 1/3 of the leaf when mowing.

So if you come back to a long lawn raise your mower blades and commit to mowing your lawn multiple times. This way you will never remove more than 1/3 of the leaf. This will reduce the stress on your lawn and ensure you don’t shock your lawn on your return home. With a trim, drink and snack your lawn will be back to its best in no time, and a little time in the yard might be just the thing to help beat the post-holiday blues!

Is your post-holiday lawn a little dry?

While there has been a little bit of rain around in certain parts of South-east Queensland. As always some areas get unlucky and you might have returned home to a dry post-holiday lawn. If this is you, then it’s important to pump some water in ASAP. Your lawn can be quite resilient, especially the more drought tolerant varieties such as DNA Certificated Sir Walter Buffalo and TifTuf Bermuda.

When getting the water in your lawn remember that a long deep watering is much more beneficial than regular light watering. So give your lawn a nice big drink. Also with the days a little warmer it is best to either water in the morning or the evening to avoid losing too much of that moisture to evaporation during the day.

Is your post-holiday lawn lacking nutrients?

Your post-holiday lawn might also be feeling a little neglected and be low on nutrients. A great way to give your lawn a boost is with a plant tonic like Charlie Carp or Seasol. These products come in simple hose on packs making application a breeze. This will help condition your soil and give your lawn some nutrients to get it back to its best.

Alternatively, if your lawn looks extra hungry it might be a good time to give your lawn a hit of fertiliser. We recommend the Lawn Solutions premium fertiliser which you can pickup from our sales office or order from our online store. Remember to always water in your fertiliser well to avoid fertiliser burn. Make sure to carefully read the instructions before use of any products to make sure it’s suitable for your lawn variety.
