Zoysia Australis is a medium-textured zoysia grass with a unique blue-green leaf colour. Since hitting Australian shores (and lawns) less than a decade ago, it’s gained traction thanks to its superior wear tolerance and recovery compared to other zoysia grass/warm season grass types. It handles full sun to medium shade, and has a pleasantly soft but robust feel underfoot. This unique zoysia turf really is a lovely grass to own and grow.

There’s a New Zoysia Grass Turf in Town
Zoysia Australis turf is tough and hardy, providing a practical zoysia lawn option that thrives in a wide range of areas and environmental conditions. Released on the Australian market in 2018 by Lawn Solutions Australia along with other new zoysia turfgrasses, it’s the ideal turf solution for maintaining a lush lawn in the face of high traffic and shade. It’s the zoysia turf grass that performs in Australian conditions where other grasses falter. Little wonder it’s become a firm favourite, from golf courses to gardens across the country.
* Full sun to moderate shade (minimum 3 – 5 hours direct sunlight per day). The more sun in winter, the better.
* Suitable for various soil conditions, but free draining soils are recommended.
* Can be mown as low as 10mm or left unmown. Grows slowly, so frequent mowing isn’t required (always ensure mower blades are sharp and never remove more than ⅓ of the leaf blade).
* Zoysia Australis can develop a unique and alluring reddish hue coming out of the spring/summer growing season into the cooler winter months, especially in temperate zones across the southern states.
This is less common in sub-tropical Brisbane and south east Queensland, where warmer climates limit the effects of winter dormancy. This means Brisbane zoysia lawns are less likely to enter a fully dormant phase.
