What is curb appeal?
People will judge a book by its cover and the same goes for your lawn. Curb appeal refers to how nice your house looks from the curb. People visiting will judge within seconds of arriving, meaning that your lawn will set the tone of the space.
#1 Mow your lawn correctly
Mowing your lawn correctly is super important for curb appeal. Knowing when it needs it, compared to when you want to mow.
In particular, if the weather has been wet, you may need to mow it multiple times in a week. If it has not rained, you may not need to.
To know when your lawn needs a trim, check the height of it. For most lawn varieties during the peak of the growing season you will need to keep an extra eye on it.
Keeping the height right is a particular key point for mowing. If you leave it long it will look messy and neglected (unless you have a premium variety such as Sir Grange Zoysia), or if you mow it too short it may be exposed to pests and diseases. A key point to this is to take no more than 1/3rd of the leaf off when mowing.
For extra curb appeal think about whether you want to mow stripes or other patterns into your lawn.
#2 Trim your edges
Trimming the edges of your lawn will sure enough make your neighbours pay attention to the care and detail you put into it. By using a whipper snipper or lawn edger you get to trim the parts of your lawn that are unable to be reached with a mower such as:
- Near fences
- Garden beds
- Curb
- Near walls
- Driveways
#3 Cleaning up your lawn
Making sure that you clean up your lawn space will show that you have a tidy area and care for the space.
Ways you can remove common lawn debris is from the use of a rake or leaf blower. These will ensure that you remove things such as:
- Leaves
- Branches and twigs
- Grass clipping
- Wrappers
#4 Treat your lawn to some fertiliser
Like mowing, your lawn does love a treat such as fertiliser. Applying fertiliser during the right time of the year will allow your lawn the chance to flourish.
